Winter Wonderland Ball

Kaupungissamme on tapana kutsua kaikki koulumme yhdeksäsluokkalaiset juhlimaan Suomen itsenäisyyttä kaupungintalolle. Tänä vuonna mukanamme juhli kaupunginjohtajan, Paavo Latva-Raskun, hänen vaimonsa, Eeva-Marian, veteraanien ja kaupunginvaltuutettujen lisäksi, myös ystävyyskaupunkimme Rakveren kaupungin johtaja, Anders Jaadla vaimoineen.

Tilaisuudessa mm. pidettiin puheita ja tanssittiin. Sotaveteraani Jaakko Palmu muistutti, kuinka tärkeitä päätöksiä meillä yhdeksäsluokkalaisilla on edessä.
"Ratkaisun tekeminen vaatii teiltä tarmoa ja sisua. Keskustelkaa asiasta vanhempienne ja isovanhempienne kanssa. Lopullinen päätös on kuitenkin teillä."

Before 1917, Finland was an autonomic Grand Duchy under the power of Russia. However, when we became independent in December 6th of the mentioned year, the day has become an annual holiday in Finland and is celebrated throughout the country.

In our city, it's a tradition to invite all ninth-graders of our school to a celebration to the city hall to celebrate the independence of Finland. This year we were celebrating not only with the city mayor Paavo Latva-Rasku, his wife, Eeva-Maria, veterans ja the members of the city council, but also with the mayor of our sister city Rakvere, Anders Jaadla and his wife.

The ceremony included e.g. speeches and dancing. Veteran Jaakko Palmu reminded us how important decisions we ninth-graders will have ahead of us.

"Making the decisions requires energy and guts from you. Discuss these things with your parents and grandparents. However, in the end, it's up to you what you decide." Palmu also wished, that none of us would never again become a veteran of war.

The head of the student body, Silja Annala, also held a speech, in which she reminded all of us to appreciate Finland's independence.

"I want to thank the veterans for making it possible for us to celebrate the 94th anniversary of our independence. It is a valueable, but also a happy thing. Be sure to smile today and the following Tuesday. Independence and freedom are things to be happy about."

Fallen leaves on the ground

Lukuvuotemme on jaettu neljään jaksoon. Työskentelemme blogimme kimpussa ensimmäisessä ja kolmannessa jaksossa. Blogimme jää syysloman alkaessa tauolle. Jatkamme postausten tekoa tammikuussa.

At Lapua Secondary School, we spend autumn holiday at week 42.
We’re lucky to have holiday for the whole week; in some schools, the holiday is spent as an extended weekend. Most of us spend the week at Lapua with their friends. Then its the perfect time to have sleepovers, stay up late and relax a bit. Some students leave abroad with their family. At that point, the trip is pretty expensive. That’s why some leave before of after the holiday and ask some free time from school.
Our school year is divided into four periods. We work with our blog in the first and third periods. We’ll continue posting in January. Some of us, however, are interested in writing and might put up their stories even during the break.

Some mopeds go, some mopeds don't!

Moporatsioita on tehty tänä vuonna yleisesti koko Pohjanmaan alueella.
Moporatsiassa poliisi tuli koululle tarkistamaan oppilaiden käytössä olevat mopot ja skootterit. Poliisit tarkistivat mopon rakenteen viritysten varalta. Rakenteen vaikuttaessa epänormaalilta, poliisit itse testasivat mopon nopeuden.
Koulutuksen piti Lapuan koulupoliisi Juha Joutsiniemi.

At September 29th, Thursday, Lapua Secondary School had a moped raid. In the same week, there was a "Safely By Moped" education course. Moped raids are organized at the school casually, not necessarily every year. "Safely By Moped" education course, however, is organized every year. Moped raids are organized generally in the whole area of Ostrobothnia this year.
At the moped raid, police came to the school to check student's mopeds and scooters. Police checked the moped's structure in case of tuning. If the structure seemed abnormal, the police tested the moped's speed by themselves. If the moped was tuned up, the owner got a fine, had to pay light motorcycle tax and possibly lose his or her driver’s license and license plate. To cap it all, the person may have to wait for another year before she of he can regain the his or her driver’s license. All moped and scooter owners also had to show his or her driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration.
At the "Safely By Moped" education eightgraders got important information about riding with a moped, risks of negligence, moped abuse and effect of alcohol in the traffic. The education was provided by Lapua school police Juha Joutsiniemi.

TET

= Työelämään Tutustuminen.
TET on viikon mittainen työharjoittelu jonka aikana 8. ja 9. luokan oppilaat ovat töissä valitsemallaan työpaikalla. 7. luokkalaisilla on kahden päivän mittainen ruokala-TET, jonka he suorittavat koulun ruokalassa.
Työpaikkaan pitää hakea itse ennen TET -viikkoa. TETin loppupuolella TETläiset pyytävät kirjallisen arvostelun käyttäytymisestään ja työnteostaan työnantajalta, jonka he palauttavat seuraavalla viikolla opinto-ohjaajalleen.

TET

= Work Practise Program.
TET is a week-long work practice. During TET, the eighth and ninth grade students work at a “job” they’ve chosen for themselves. The seventh graders have a two-day canteen TET, which they perform at the school canteen. The students have to apply for the job before the TET week. At the end of the TET, the students ask for a written evaluation of their behaviour and working from their employer. They will later return it to their student counsellor. The evaluation given by the employer will help e.g. when applying for a summer job. During the TET, the students work with same kinds of tasks the real employees do.

The most common places for TET are local shops, elementary schools and kindergartens.

The writers’ own opinions about their TET week, their jobs, working assignments and employers

Jenina: In my opinion, my TET place was very pleasant. I really didn’t want to go back to school after the week. I worked at Pentik, which is a furnishing shop. The employees were nice and the working assignments were easy, and time passed quickly while working. However, sometimes the employees/employer didn’t find anything for me to do.

Vilma: In my opinion, my TET week was quite nice and relaxed. I worked at a school, an elementary school next to our school. There was enough working assignments for me and they were all easy enough, so I didn’t get too much stress. I held classes with my friend, and we did some office work. The employees were nice. Even though the TET week was pleasant, it was still nice to return to school and meet my friends.

Sarita: For TET, I was at the same school with Vilma. It was quite nice there, even though we didn’t always have things to do. Most of the time we were still doing something with Vilma, even though there wasn’t anything else, somebody often took us to help at class and to correct tests. The tasks given to us were really different, but they were all easy enough that we passed the week moderately. I don’t really like little kids,
so at the end of the week, I was grateful the TET week was ending.

Future Popstars, perhaps?

Eräs 9. luokan kiinnostavimmista musiikin valinnaiskursseista on Popstars-kurssi. Kahdeksannella luokalla kursseja on peräti kaksi.

Joitain tunneilla harjoiteltuja kappaleita:
Taylor Swit: Love Story
Antti Kleemola: Sun puolella
Miley Cyrus: Butterfly fly away
Jason Derulo: I’m Yours, In My Head, Teardrops of My Guitar
Taylor Swift: The Best Day
Sunrise Avenue: Hollywood Hills
Glee: Don’t Stop Believing, One of Us, Defying Dravity, True Colours
Anssi Kela: Aamu, Puistossa
--
One of  the most interesting music-centered optional courses in the ninth grade is Popstars. The popularity of this course is shown in the amount of students; as many as 23 students attend this course. In the eighth grade, there are as many as two separate courses.

At the beginning of the lesson, the class listens to a song picked by the teacher or one of the students. During the lesson, we also practice songs from different song books, which are performed in special school occasions, such as the Christmas party, spring festival and staff retirement parties. Pupils sing with microphones while the teacher accompanies them with the piano. Sometimes in school festivals, students from the Music Playing –optional course accompany our singing.

Our teacher keeps good discipline. We can’t leave the lesson without permission and it’s not recommended to leave the class because of a barber appointment, for example.

Some songs we have sung this autumn:
Taylor Swit - Love Story, The Best Day
Antti Kleemola - Sun Puolella
Miley Cyrus - Butterfly Fly Away
Jason Derulo - I’m Yours, In My Head, Teardrops of My Guitar
Sunrise Avenue - Hollywood Hills
Glee - Don’t Stop Believing, One of Us, Defying Dravity, True Colours
Anssi Kela - Aamu, Puistossa

Let's all be friends!

The seventh graders are joined together in Lapuas Nuorisotalo, it’s a place where young people can spend their free time, every fall. They spend there some hours by playing and having fun to get to know each other. We were able to follow the class 7H grouping, because one of the prefects of the class is on our blog course. We also interviewed one of the workers in Lapuas nuorisotalo.

The students in 7H arrived in the Nuorisotalo at morning nervous and excited. Luckily the youth center leaders, class teacher and the school curator were there and activated the group in to games and playing.

The games included learning the names, moving and hanging out with the class. Also the prefects hosted a game and were there for the students. The programme included different taskes, for the example neighbour-game, which was hosted by French exchange student. The students also visited different checkpoints where they did every kind of tasks.

In the end the students were able to go around the house, make class pins and after that was time for the lunch.

Styles of the week 40

Anssi, 9. luokka
En tiedä, miten kuvailisin tyyliäni. Ostan vaatteeni yleensä netistä, en Halpa-Hallista.

Heidi, 9. luokka

----

Anssi, 9th grade
I don't know how to describe my style. I usually buy my clothes from the net, not from supermarkets.
Heidi, 9th grade
I buy clothes that I like and which are comfortable to wear. I don't have any specific stores, I buy clothes from where I happen to find them.

Sports day

Jokasyksyisen liikuntapäivän yksi osuus on 7-luokkalaisten leikkimieliset yleisurheilukisat.

Haastattelimme 800m juoksuun osallistunutta Mikkoa ennen suoritusta.

Every autumn we participate to a sport day. One part is the 7th-grader's playful athletics competition. The
teens, among other things, do long-jump, high-jump, running and shot put. Taking part is optional and you get a point if you do. You also get points for winning a sport. At the end of the day the class with the most points wins and gets fame, honor and ice-cream.
The morning begins with a sport-quiz for the whole school. The winning class is supposed to get a prize (9A is still waiting for the prize it won when it was on 8th grade).
The athletics competition split opinions: Jade and Jutta didn’t expect much, but Sanni, Iina and Laura had high expectations for the day. Many students tought that sports day is a good idea and it wins sitting in class.
Negative opinions were usually coldness, wich can be avoided by dressing warmly. Other useful equipments are trainers and sweatpants.
The students we interviewed were happy about the day: almost everybody had fun.
We interviewed Mikko, who took part in 800 meter running. Before the performance he tought he would be in top five. Mikko exceeded himself: he won after the long and tight race. The feelings after the run was breathless and good.
- I did better than I tought.

Party All Night

Koulumme 9-luokkalaiset saavat järjestää bileitä noin kerran kuukaudessa. Lukuvuoden ensimmäiset bileet järjesti 9C. Lippu maksaa 2 euroa ja rahat menevät järjestäjäluokan luokkaretken hyväksi.

Ensimmäiset bileet onnistuivat hyvin ja keräsivät porukkaa. Bileet ovat yleensä kolmetuntisia, kuudesta yhdeksään. Bileisiin pyydetään valvojiksi yläkoulun opettajia, joskus paikalla on myös oppilaiden vanhempia.

Valaistus salissa on hämärä. Yksi salin kulma on varattu DJ –porukalle.

Illan loppupuolella 9. luokan pojat voivat jopa riisua paitojaan. Mahtaakohan heille tulla tanssiessa kuuma?

---
The ninth-graders of our school can organize a party once a month. The first party of this autumn were organized by class 9C. The ticket costs 2 € and the money goes to the organizing class who uses the money for the class field trip.

The first party went well and gathered a lot of people. The party usually takes three hours, from 6 to 9 o’clock. Some teachers come as supervisors to the party. Sometimes there’s also some students’ parents.

The lighting in the hall is shady. One corner of the hall is reserved for the DJ group. The DJ usually plays the songs from a computer or from YouTube. Also, a few days before throwing the party, a song wish list is put on the school bulletin board, where anyone can write the songs they wish to be played at the party.

The organizing class puts up a snack stand, where people can buy candy, coke, juice etc. The crowd usually takes over the dance floor half way through the evening.

At the end of the evening, the ninth-grade boys can even take off their shirts. I wonder if they start feeling hot while dancing?

The organizing class stays there after the party to clean up and close the doors.

This is the beginning

Hei!

Blogin käynnistäminen vaatii jonkin verran aikaa, kuten olemme saaneet huomata. Pitää luoda sisältöä, suunnitella ulkoasua, ottaa muiden mielipiteet huomioon ja luoda hyvä ilmapiiri. Juttujen valmistumisessa menee yllättävän paljon aikaa.

Toivomme tämän blogin kiinnostavan ystävyyskoulujamme, muita oppilaita ja heidän vanhempiaan. Jos jokin juttumme herättää sinussa ajatuksia, voit täysin vapaasti jättää palautetta ja kommentoida juttujamme.

Hello!

We are ninth-grade students at the Lapua secondary school and you are now reading our first post. We gather once a week on a blog course, where we write about the daily life of our school and happenings in Lapua. Our group is tight, inspiring and consists mostly of girls. On the other hand, the only boy in our group is so effective he equals ten boys.

Starting the blog takes some time, as we have noticed. We need to create contents, design the outlook, take note on other student’s opinions and create a good athmosphere. Writing stories takes a lot of time.

We hope this blog interests our sister schools, other students and their parents. If any of our stories gives you thoughts, you are free to leave comments.
