Lapuan Yläkoululle jää lukuvuoden aikana paljon tavaroita, joiden omistajia ei tiedetä. Talonmies ja siivoojat keräävät löytämänsä tavarat talteen. Joskus keskusradiossa kuulutetaan, että oppilaat hakisivat omat tavaransa pois.

Koululle jäävät tavarat ovat usein vanhoja ja joskus käyttökelvottomiakin. Laatikoissa on parittomia lapasia, luistimia, huppareita, takkeja, liikuntavaatteita ja pipoja. Talonmies Jorma Suomela kertoo, että löytötavaroita ei laiteta roskiin tai polteta, vaan niille yritetään löytää omistajat parhaan mukaan. Jos tavaroiden omistajia ei kuitenkaan löydy, ne viedään kirpputorille. Parittomat lapaset päätyvät kuitenkin roskiin.

Talonmiehen lasiseinäisen huoneen lasien takana on suojassa myös koululle unohtuneita koruja, esim. sormuksia, ketjuja, parittomia korvakoruja jne. Jos koulun tiloista löytyy kännyköitä, avaimia, kukkaroita tai muuta vastaavanlaista tavaraa, ne viedään kansliaan, missä löytyneistä esineistä kuulutetaan. Esineen saa kansliasta itselleen tuntomerkkejä vastaan.

Over the year, lots of items with the owner unknown is found in our school. The janitor and the cleaners collect the items they find and put them away for safekeeping. Sometimes a notification is made through the central radio in order for the students to get their stuff back.

Most items that are left at the school are often old and sometimes unusable. In the boxes for lost items one can find pairless mittens, skates, hoodies, coats, gym clothes and hats. The school janitor, Jorma Suomela says that the items are are not thrown to the nearest trash can or burnt; instead, they try to find the owners of the items as best they can. However, if the owners aren’t found by the end of the school year, the items are sold at a flea market. The pairless mittens, however, usually end up in the dumpster.

Behind the class wall of the janitor’s booth are pieces of jewellery forgotten at the school, like rings, chains, pairless earrings etc. If valuable and important items such as cell phones, keys or wallets are found at school, they are taken to the school office, where they’re announced at the central radio. You can have the item from the office for a description.

Playing And Clubing

Haastattelimme yläkouluikäisiä kerhonohjaajia, jotka vetävät seurakunnan järjestämiä lasten ja alakouluikäisten kerhoja.

Miksi olet kerhonohjaaja?

Saga: - Näkee kavereita.

Jenni: - Tykkään olla lasten kanssa, ja onhan se mukavaa tekemistä itsellenikin.

Hanna K: - Kerhoa on kiva pitää.

Hanna O: - Siitä saa kokemusta ja onhan se kivaakin.

Onko se mukavaa?

Saga: - On, siellä on aina niin kivat jutut.

Jenni: -Riippuu vähän ryhmästä, mutta onhan se.

Hanna K: - On.

Hanna O: - Ihan mukavaa.

Mitä kerhoa pidät?

Saga: - Puuhakerhoa.

Jenni: - Hevos- ja poikakerhoa.

Hanna K: - Valokuvauskerhoa.

Hanna O: - Liikuntakerhoa.

Montako ohjaajaa on?

Saga: - Neljä – Minä, Jenna, Vilma ja Aino.

Jenni: - Molemmissa kerhoissa kaksi. Hevoskerhoa pidän Petran ja poikakerhoa Karoliinan kanssa.

Hanna K: - Kaksi, pidän kerhoa Elinan kanssa.

Hanna O: - Kaksi, toinen ohjaaja on Jonna.

Mitä teette kerhossa?

Saga: - Riippuu vähän päivästä. Ollaan tehty ruokaa, ennen joulua pidettiin pikkujoulut ja nyyttäritkin on ollut. Leikitään paljon, ja tulossa on vielä ainakin ulkoilupäivä. Kerhossa pidetään myös pieniä hartauksia.

Jenni: - Heppakerhossa opetellaan kaikkea hevosista, poikakerhossa pelataan ja leikitään.

Hanna K: - Opetellaan valokuvauksen teoriaa, kuvataan ja leikitään.

Hanna O: - Leikitään liikunnallisia leikkejä ja muuta vastaavaa.

Mikä siinä on parasta?

Saga: - Mikään ei nouse muiden yläpuolelle.

Jenni: - Saa tutustua uusiin ihmisiin.

Hanna K: - Maanantait on aina niin tylsiä, niin kerhon pitäminen piristää.

Hanna O: - Lapsien kanssa on mukava viettää aikaa.

Kysyimme mielipidettä kerhonohjaajatoiminnasta myös Venlalta, joka ei itse toimi kerhonohjaajana.

- Minusta on hyvä, että nuorille järjestetään tekemistä, eikä kaikki aika mene kotona tietokoneen ääressä. Voisihan kerhonohjaajan homma olla mukavaa. Toimisin ehkä kerhonohjaajana, jos minulla olisi aikaa.

-Venla tulee mielestään toimeen lasten kanssa. Hän on ollut TET-harjoittelussa päiväkodissa. Jos Venla toimisi kerhonohjaajana, hän voisi pitää sekalaista puuhakerhoa.

We interviewed secondary-school-aged club instructors who run clubs arranged by the church, meant for children and elementary-school-aged kids.

Why are you a club instructor?

Saga: - I can meet my friends.

Jenni: - I like being with children, and it’s fun for myself, too.

Hanna K: - It’s nice running a club.

Hanna O: - I get life experience and it’s kinda fun, too.  

Is it fun?

Saga: - Yes, it’s always fun being there.

Jenni: - It depends on the group, but yeah, it is.

Hanna K: - Yes.

Hanna O: - Yeah, somewhat.

What kind of club are you running?

Saga: - The playing club.

Jenni: - The horse club and the boy club.

Hanna K: - The photographing club.

Hanna O: - The gym club.

How many instructors are there?

Saga: - Four – Me, Jenna, Vilma and Aino.

Jenni: - In both clubs, we have two. I’m running the horse club with Petra and the boy club with Karoliina.

Hanna K: - Two, I’m running the club with Elina.

Hanna O: - Two, the other one is Jonna.

What kinds of activities you do?

Saga: - It depends on the day. We’ve cooked food, had a pre-Christmas party and we’ve had a potluck. We play a lot, and there’s an outdoor activities day coming, too. We also have some preaches.

Jenni: -In the horse club we learn all kinds of stuff about horses. In the boy club, we play different kinds of games.

Hanna K: - We teach the theory of photography, take photographs and play some games.

Hanna O: - We play athletic games and stuff like that.

What’s the best thing?

Saga: - Well, nothing really rises on top of other things.

Jenni: - I get to meet new people.

Hanna K: - The Mondays are always boring, so running the club cheers me up.

Hanna O: - It’s nice spending time with children.

We also asked an opinion about club instructor activity from Venla, who herself doesn’t work as a club instructor.

- I think it´s nice that youth is being arranged things to do instead of playing with computer at home. It would be nice to work as a club instructor. I would do so if I only had time.

- Venla likes to be with children. During the Work Practise Program she was in kindergarden. If she was working as a club instructor she would run playing club.



Dear Mr. President, come take a walk with me

Suomeen valitaan uusi tasavallan presidentti tammi-helmikuussa 2012. Nykyinen presidenttimme Tarja Halonen on toiminut presidenttinä kaksi kautta, eikä voi enää asettua uudelleen ehdolle. Äänestykseen voivat osallistua yli 18-vuotiaat Suomen kansalaiset.

Suomalaiset nuoret saivat osallistua leikkimielisesti presidentin valintaan niissä kouluissa, jotka osallistuivat Nuorisovaalit PRESSA -hankkeeseen ja äänestivät 11.1 sekä 24.1.2012.

Oppilaat menivät luokka kerrallaan kokoushuoneeseen, jossa he saivat vaalilipukkeet. Äänestys tapahtui sermin takana, jonka seinälle oli kiinnitetty presidenttiehdokkaiden henkilötiedot ja äänestysnumerot. Numero merkittiin äänestyslippuun, jonka jälkeen lippu leimattiin ja pudotettiin vaaliuurnaan. Vaalivirkailijoina toimivat nuorisovaltuuston ja oppilaskunnan hallituksen jäsenet.

Lapuan Yläkoulun, Sedun ja Lukion yhteenlasketut äänet julkistettiin 17.1.2012.

Sauli Niinistö sai 35,67%, Timo Soini 28,34% ja Paavo Väyrynen 10,42% äänistä.

Sauli Niinistön ja Timo Soinin välille järjestettiin uusi Nuorisovaaliäänestys 24.1.2012.

Tulokset julkistetaan 1.2.2012.

In February 2012, Finland will be chosen a new president. Our current president Tarja Halonen has already worked as the president for two terms, which means she can’t run for president anymore. Any 18-year-old or older citizen of Finland can vote in the election.

The Finnish youth had the change to take part in a “fake” presidential election in those schools, which participated in the Nuorisovaalit PRESSA, (which means Youth Election PRESIDENT) -project,  and voted January 11^th and 24^th 2012.

The students went one class at a time to a meeting room, where they got ballot papers. The actual voting happened behind a folding screen, where they had put up information about the candidates and also their voting numbers. The number was written to the paper, which was then stamped and dropped into the ballot box. The members of the youth counsil and the student counsil worked as election attendants.

The combined votes of Lapua Secondary School, Sedu and Upper Secondary School were announced in January 17^th 2012. Sauli Niinistö got 35,67%, Timo Soini 28,34% and Paavo Väyrynen 10,42% of all votes. A new voting was arranged between Niinistö and Soini January 24^th. The results will be revealed February 1^st.

Art begings at art class

Syksyn aikana koulun kuvistunneilla on valmistunut erilaisia piirustuksia, maalauksia, veistoksia ja monia muita töitä. Esittelen tässä nyt niistä osan.

 

Viime jouluna valmistuneita kipsivaluja. Tekijöillä on ollut värityksen suhteen runsaasti
mielikuvitusta.

   

Nämä lehdet leikataan alumiinista ja liitetään alustoihinsa, jotka on väritetty maalilla, johon on
sekoitettu hiekkaa. Tämän projektin alkuperä juontuu
taannoin Lapuan taidemuseossa järjestetystä näyttelystä.



Erään kahdeksannen luokan oppilaan veden tärkeydestä kertova kipsikäsityö. Taustalla lehtitöitä varten tehtyjä lahjalaatikoita.

Yhdeksäsluokkalaisten pastellitöitä, aiheena pilvisymboliikka.

Osa näistä oppilaiden tekemistä töistä saattaa päätyä toukokuun 2012 alussa avautuvaan Taiteen Kosketus IX –kuvataidenäyttelyyn, missä on myös Lapuan lukion oppilaiden töitä. Näyttely on järjestetty Patruunagalleriassa joka toinen vuosi vuodesta 1996 lähtien. Näyttelyssä on kuvistöiden lisäksi esillä myös valokuvia.

During the fall, different kinds of drawings, paintings, sculptures and other many other works have been made in our school’s art class. I shall now present some of them to you.

These "plaster hands" were made made from plaster tape; the tape was made wet and then
wrapped around the person's hand. When the plaster dried up, it was removed from the
person's hand. Note that the hand is probably made in small steps, as it is hard to
remove it if it's done as a full hand.

These are some linocutting works by eighth-graders. The idea behind this project was to
depict the chosen theme in decorative pieces.

Pastel works by ninth-graders. The subject was clouds. (In my personal opinion, I like the
one in the lower left corner the best.)

Little boxes made by seventh-graders (used material was clay). Actually, most of these are
more like mini-sized CD racks.

A part of these pieces of work made by the students might end up in the 9th Touch of Art (Taiteen Kosketus) art show at the beginning of May 2012, where they display not only the works from our school, but also works from the Lapua high school. The art show has been arranged every two years since 1996. Apart from the school artwork, there are also photos displayed.

Winter Wonderland Ball

Kaupungissamme on tapana kutsua kaikki koulumme yhdeksäsluokkalaiset juhlimaan Suomen itsenäisyyttä kaupungintalolle. Tänä vuonna mukanamme juhli kaupunginjohtajan, Paavo Latva-Raskun, hänen vaimonsa, Eeva-Marian, veteraanien ja kaupunginvaltuutettujen lisäksi, myös ystävyyskaupunkimme Rakveren kaupungin johtaja, Anders Jaadla vaimoineen.

 Tilaisuudessa mm. pidettiin puheita ja tanssittiin. Sotaveteraani Jaakko Palmu muistutti, kuinka tärkeitä päätöksiä meillä yhdeksäsluokkalaisilla on edessä.

"Ratkaisun tekeminen vaatii teiltä tarmoa ja sisua. Keskustelkaa asiasta vanhempienne ja isovanhempienne kanssa. Lopullinen päätös on kuitenkin teillä." Palmu toivoi myös, ettei meistä kenestäkään tulisi ikinä sotaveteraania.

Myös oppilaskunnan puheenjohtaja Silja Annala piti puheen, jossa hän muistutti kaikkia arvostamaan Suomen itsenäisyyttä.

"Kiitokset veteraaneille siitä, että tiistaina me saamme viettää itsenäisyytemme 94-vuotisjuhlaa. Itsenäisyys on arvokas, mutta myös iloinen asia. Uskaltakaa hymyillä tänään ja tiistaina. Itsenäisyys ja vapaus ovat asioita, joista saa olla iloinen."

Before 1917, Finland was an autonomic Grand Duchy under the power of Russia. However, when we became independent in December 6th of the mentioned year, the day has become an annual holiday in Finland and is celebrated throughout the country.

In our city, it's a tradition to invite all ninth-graders of our school to a celebration to the city hall to celebrate the independence of Finland. This year we were celebrating not only with the city mayor Paavo Latva-Rasku, his wife, Eeva-Maria, veterans ja the members of the city council, but also with the mayor of our sister city Rakvere, Anders Jaadla and his wife.

The ceremony included e.g. speeches and dancing. Veteran Jaakko Palmu reminded us how important decisions we ninth-graders will have ahead of us.

"Making the decisions requires energy and guts from you. Discuss these things with your parents and grandparents. However, in the end, it's up to you what you decide." Palmu also wished, that none of us would never again become a veteran of war.

The head of the student body, Silja Annala, also held a speech, in which she reminded all of us to appreciate Finland's independence.

"I want to thank the veterans for making it possible for us to celebrate the 94th anniversary of our independence. It is a valueable, but also a happy thing. Be sure to smile today and the following Tuesday. Independence and freedom are things to be happy about."

Fallen leaves on the ground

Vietämme Lapuan Yläkoulussa syyslomaa viikolla 42.
Olemme onnekkaita kun saamme olla lomalla koko viikon, joissain kouluissa loma vietetään pidennettynä viikonloppuna. Useimmat meistä viettävät viikon Lapualla omien kavereiden kanssa. Silloin on aikaa käydä toisen luona yökylässä, valvoa myöhään ja ottaa rennommin. Jotkut oppilaat lähtevät vanhempiensa kanssa ulkomaille. Matkat ovat silloin aika kalliita. Sen vuoksi jotkut matkustavan ennen tai jälkeen syysloman ja pyytävät vapaata koulusta.
Lukuvuotemme on jaettu neljään jaksoon. Työskentelemme blogimme kimpussa ensimmäisessä ja kolmannessa jaksossa. Blogimme jää syysloman alkaessa tauolle. Jatkamme postausten tekoa tammikuussa. Eräät meistä ovat innostuneet juttujen kirjoittamisesta ja saattavat laittaa tuotoksiaan esille myös tauon aikana.

At Lapua Secondary School, we spend autumn holiday at week 42.
We’re lucky to have holiday for the whole week; in some schools, the holiday is spent as an extended weekend. Most of us spend the week at Lapua with their friends. Then its the perfect time to have sleepovers, stay up late and relax a bit. Some students leave abroad with their family. At that point, the trip is pretty expensive. That’s why some leave before of after the holiday and ask some free time from school.
Our school year is divided into four periods. We work with our blog in the first and third periods. We’ll continue posting in January. Some of us, however, are interested in writing and might put up their stories even during the break.

Party All Night

Koulumme 9-luokkalaiset saavat järjestää bileitä noin kerran kuukaudessa. Lukuvuoden ensimmäiset bileet järjesti 9C. Lippu maksaa 2 euroa ja rahat menevät järjestäjäluokan luokkaretken hyväksi.

Ensimmäiset bileet onnistuivat hyvin ja keräsivät porukkaa. Bileet ovat yleensä kolmetuntisia, kuudesta yhdeksään. Bileisiin pyydetään valvojiksi yläkoulun opettajia, joskus paikalla on myös oppilaiden vanhempia.

Valaistus salissa on hämärä. Yksi salin kulma on varattu DJ –porukalle. Yleensä DJ on tallentanut kappaleet tietokoneelle tai soittaa niitä YouTubesta. Bileitä edeltävinä päivinä koulun ilmoitustaululle pistetään biisitoivelista, johon kaikki voivat kirjoittaa omia toiveitaan.

Järjestävä luokka pystyttää paikalle kioskipöydän, josta voi ostaa esim. karkkia, limsaa ja mehua. Väki valtaa tanssilattian yleensä puolessa välissä iltaa.

Illan loppupuolella 9. luokan pojat voivat jopa riisua paitojaan. Mahtaakohan heille tulla tanssiessa kuuma?

Järjestävä luokka jää vielä illan jälkeen paikalle siivoamaan ja sulkemaan ovet.

The ninth-graders of our school can organize a party once a month. The first party of this autumn were organized by class 9C. The ticket costs 2 € and the money goes to the organizing class who uses the money for the class field trip.

The first party went well and gathered a lot of people. The party usually takes three hours, from 6 to 9 o’clock. Some teachers come as supervisors to the party. Sometimes there’s also some students’ parents.

The lighting in the hall is shady. One corner of the hall is reserved for the DJ group. The DJ usually plays the songs from a computer or from YouTube. Also, a few days before throwing the party, a song wish list is put on the school bulletin board, where anyone can write the songs they wish to be played at the party.

The organizing class puts up a snack stand, where people can buy candy, coke, juice etc. The crowd usually takes over the dance floor half way through the evening.

At the end of the evening, the ninth-grade boys can even take off their shirts. I wonder if they start feeling hot while dancing?

The organizing class stays there after the party to clean up and close the doors.
